panaji: the deadline set by the state government and the panaji municipal council to the public works department for restoring the roads in the capital city to motorable condition passed off today with the condition of roads remaining pitiable. asked to comment as to why the roads remained un-repaired condition, the pmc chairperson, mr ashok m naik, said the pwd had been entrusted with the work and that it has failed to meet the november 15 deadline set to it.
the pmc chairperson also alleged the pwd was not co-operating with the pmc in repairs, revamping of the roads that have been dug up for maintenance and laying of cables, and water pipelines. mr naik informed the navhind times that the pmc has sent a number of reminders to the pwd to fill the trenches and level the roads but no action has been initiated by department authorities. the pwd contractors are working very slowly in repairing roads in the city, he added. he further said the pmc has no option but to extend the deadline by another 15 days for the completion of work. he, however, did not revealed what action the pmc may take against the pwd if it failed to carry out the work within the stipulated time.
